OP.LYNX & NewFest FILMMAKER BRUNCH (Aug. 2008)

We presented a wildly diverse selection of lesbian shorts
from talented local and international filmmakers — from the sweet
sentiment of Erin Greenwell’s (pictured second from left) Overnight Book to Swedish filmmaker Mandra Waback’s (not pictured) moving short Doors and Christy Wegener’s (not pictured) sharp Long Ago, to the rough and raucous riff raff of Katrina del Mar’s (middle) Surf Gang and Leah Meyerhoff’s (second from right) Eternal Flame. Robin Pickering (far right) guitarist from the band Triple Creme brought us their latest music video as a late addition to the program. You’ll hear Kerry Weldon (far left), Admin Dir of NewFest, moderate a Q&A with the Filmmakers. All Photos: Copyright 2008 Alina Wilczynski. Read more about the event…

HOME RUN OR STRIKEOUT: 25 YEARS OF GAY & LESBIAN SPORTS (Jun. 2008)

Is the professional sports world an open playing field or the "last closet"? When
you talk about LGBT people and sports, it’s not just about athletics;
there are much bigger questions about gender roles, stereotypes and pop
culture. A stellar panel of lesbians and gay
men who’ve made sports their lives speak out.

You’ll hear from National Sports Hall of Famer Donna Lopiano (pictured
top row left), Bill Konigsberg
(pictured top row second from left) an openly gay sports writer for The
Associated Press; Mark Larson (top row second from right) was Mr. International Gay Rodeo Assn. (2002) and Mr. North Star Gay Rodeo Assn. (2001, 2000); Amy Scheer (top row far right) is the current Vice President,
Marketing & Communications at Madison Square Garden; Cyd Ziegler (bottom
row left), Co-Founder of outsports.com; Pat Griffin (bottom row middle), noted lecturer on lesbian and gay issues in athletics; and Sue Wicks

THE TAX BURDEN OF BEING GAY OR LESBIAN (Jan. 2008)

David Cay Johnston, a veteran business writer for The New York Times, has
single-handedly helped change tax law enforcement with hard-hitting
stories on how the system really operates — as opposed to how the
government says it does. You’ll hear him expose "the tax burden of being gay or lesbian" — and how the burden of filing "single" in today’s tax code
has been largely ignored by LGBT voters. This is a rare opportunity to

hear about gay and lesbian financial issues from a giant in the world
of business journalism. Read more about the event…
