AUTHOR! AUTHOR! MEET A ROOMFUL!

Wednesday, June 27, 2012
6:30PM - 8:30PM

IN 'LOVE, CHRISTOPHER STREET: REFLECTIONS OF NEW YORK CITY,' 26 LGBT AUTHORS PAY TRIBUTE TO THE CITY THAT LAUNCHED GAY PRIDE.

On Wednesday, June 27, Out Professionals and OP.LYNX, our dynamic women's network, invite you to hear some of your favorite authors read choice bits of their own from "Love, Christopher Street: Reflections of New York City" (Vantage Point Books, June), edited by Thomas Keith (1).

Continuing the Lambda Literary Award-winning series of tributes to America's great urban hubs, the book's 26 original essays encompass 40 years of LGBT life in the five boroughs.

Emmy Award-winning actress and comedian Judy Gold (left) reads an excerpt from "Silence=Death: The Education of a Comedian," in which Bob Smith (center) recounts his life as an out, stand-up comedian in the 80s, and his fight to keep his fierce humor when faced with a diagnosis of ALS.

On June 27, you'll also meet and hear from Mark Ameen (2, "Irrespective of the Storm"), Christopher Bram (3, "Perry Street Redux"), Martin Hyatt ("My Last Big Addiction"), Fay Jacobs (4, "As I Stood Frying ..."), Michele Karlsberg (5, "The Isle of Staten"), Rev. Irene Monroe (6, "Dis-membering Stonewall"), Charles Rice-Gonzalez (7, "A 1986 Bronx Story"), and Charlie Vazquez (8, "The Voices").

Thomas Keith edited Tennessee Williams's "The Magic Tower & Other One-Act Plays," as well as Williams's last full-length play, "A House Not Meant to Stand." The Introduction to "Love Christopher Street" is by novelist Christopher Bram ("Eminent Outlaws: The Gay Writers Who Changed America," "Gods and Monsters," "Father of Frankenstein").
