MEET NY TIMES FOOD MAVEN KIM SEVERSON
Monday, May 10, 2010
6:30PM - 8:00PM

GET A FIRST LOOK AT HER HOT NEW BOOK!
If you love food - and great writing - then you know Kim Severson (above). She's the New York Times "Dining" guru whose honors include four James Beard awards.
Here's your chance to meet Kim and celebrate publication of her new book, Spoon Fed: How Eight Cooks Saved My Life (Riverhead). Kim will be interviewed by Glennda Testone, Executive Director of The Center, in this special event co-sponsored by The New York Times Company GLBT & Allies affinity group.
About the book:
A little more than a dozen years ago, Kim was a newspaper reporter in Anchorage, Alaska, who was on the verge of losing her job, her relationship, and possibly her life. Spoon Fed is the story of her transformation.
"In this frank confessional memoir, Severson... attributes her culinary confidence to the tutelage of eight maternal figures... Southern food writer Edna Lewis's unconventional living situation with the young gay cook Scott Peacock inspires Severson to recount her own difficult early years of coming out as a lesbian in the face of her family's disapproval and discomfort," wrote Publishers Weekly.
Kim has written two other books, The Trans Fat Solution: Cooking and Shopping to Eliminate the Deadliest Fat from Your Diet and The New Alaska Cookbook.
You'll get the chance to ask Kim your own culinary questions too.
Glennda Testone is executive director of The Center - the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center. Throughout her career, Glennda Testone has been a leader in the field of social justice for women and LGBT people. Testone joined the New York LGBT Community Center from The Women's Media Center (WMC) where she has served as the Vice President for the past three years. While at the WMC, Testone created and directed the tremendously successful Progressive Women's Voices training program. The Women's Media Center was founded in 2005 by Jane Fonda, Robin Morgan and Gloria Steinem to make women visible and powerful in the media.
