DISCOVER CLASSIC "UNDERSEEN" MOVIES WITH CRITIC JOHN DI LEO AT EXCLUSIVE OP TALK AND SCREENING
Forget the blockbusters. Some of the best movies of the last hundred years flew so low under the radar, even committed film freaks missed them.
Now, author John Di Leo will take a fresh look at these overlooked classics at a very special OP event on March 10. DiLeo's talk, complete with movie clips, coincides with the publication of his latest book, Screen Savers: 40 Remarkable Movies Awaiting Rediscovery.
DiLeo's not just any movie fan. His book And You Thought You Knew Classic Movies (St. Martin's, 1999) was hailed by Pauline Kael as "the smartest movie quiz book I've ever seen". This is your chance to discuss, question, and even argue about cinema with a true aficionado.
Get ready to lengthen your Netflix queue with titles like Cover Girl (1944), Isle of the Dead (1945), The Harvey Girls (1946), Portrait of Jennie (1948), The Lusty Men (1952), Pat and Mike (1952), The Killing (1956), Two for the Road (1967), Pretty Poison (1968), Time after Time (1979), Rambling Rose (1991), Beautiful Thing (1996), and Three Kings (1999).
John Di Leo has been a contributing book reviewer for the Washington Post's Book World and currently writes DVD and film-book reviews in three monthly columns, appearing in Milford Magazine (PA), Allegany Magazine (MD), and Central Voice (Harrisburg, PA). He frequently hosts classic-film series, appears on radio programs, conducts film-history seminars, and has been an annual participant in the Black Bear Film Festival in the Poconos where he interviewed Farley Granger (2005) and Arlene Dahl (2006) on the festival's stage.
