Jim aims to help you create your own stye of networking by banishing any shyness or insecurity and embracing your uniqueness. He supplies you with the tools to connect quickly, interact memorably and follow up effectively.

This immersive, interactive workshop is designed to provide:

  • An awareness of networking fears and the strategies to turn them around.
  • Ways to build confidence by whole-heartedly embracing uniqueness.
  • Tips on making the initial approach — one-on-one or in a group.
  • Techniques to turn a first meeting into a sustained relationship.
  • A master plan towards becoming a master of networking.

Jim Arnoff is an attorney and Certified Life/Career Coach to the entertainment industry. As a Television/Digital Packaging Agent, he represents production companies in developing and selling original programming to the networks and digital media. At the William Morris agency Jim served both as in-house lawyer and packaging agent. He is a faculty member of the School of Visual Arts, FIT and NYU, and he leads workshops for the Producers Guild of America, National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Writers Guild of America, HBO, TimeWarner, New York Women in Film & Television, Time, Inc., NYU and MTV Networks. NORTHROP AND STRUB ON THE ERA OF ’BODY COUNTS’

POZ MAGAZINE FOUNDER AND ‘BODY COUNTS’ AUTHOR SEAN STRUB IN CONVERSATION WITH JOURNALIST AND ACTIVIST ANN NORTHROP.

On Wednesday, September 30, at Manhattan’s handsomely renovated LGBT Center, Out Professionals presents author Sean Strub (“Body Counts: A Memoir of Activism, Sex, and Survival”) in conversation with veteran journalist and activist Ann Northrop.

purch-button-orange copy

As the vivid portrait of a tumultuous era, “Body Counts” crackles with history. “From the Senate elevator to Studio 54 to Andy Warhol and Tennessee Williams, Gore Vidal and John Lennon … to the famous demonstration inside St. Patrick’s Cathedral … this is the compelling life-and-near-death story of Sean Strub, of thousands lost to HIV/AIDS and thousands more living with it whom his activism helped save“ — Andrew Tobias (“The Best Little Boy in the World”).

In “Body Counts,” Sean takes readers inside ACT UP, the activist organization that transformed a stigmatized cause into one of the defining political movements of our time. He identifies the heroes and villains of the early years of AIDS, recounting the bravery and the cowardice of politicians, doctors and everyday people.

Lily Tomlin terms Sean’s memoir “Powerful.” Choreographer and director Bill T. Jones calls it “Fresh and compelling.” Gloria Steinem writes, “By taking us with him on his journey from a conservative family in Iowa to the heart of a global movement for human rights, Sean Strub gives us ideas, strength and heart in our own journey.”

Sean Strub, the first openly HIV-positive candidate for the US Congress, produced David Drake’s hit play, “The Night Larry Kramer Kissed Me.” Founder of POZ magazine, Sean has been engaged in HIV-related stigma, discrimination, criminalization and empowerment issues since the earliest days of the epidemic. He now serves as executive director of the Sero Project.

Ann Northrop, a veteran AIDS educator and AIDS activist, co-hosts the weekly national cable show “Gay USA” with Andy Humm. Earlier Ann served as a writer-producer for ABC’s “Good Morning America” and as coordinating producer of CBS Morning News. As a member of ACT UP/NY, she participated in hundreds of demonstrations and was arrested “a couple of dozen” times. Ann and Sean have been friends and colleagues since those days. She is featured in the books “Making History,” by Eric Marcus; “Wolf Girls at Vassar,” by Anne Mackay; and “Queer in America,” by Michelangelo Signorile.

“I Left It on the Mountain” is Kevin’s follow-up to his New York Times bestseller “Mississippi Sissy.” Sessums will share stories not only about his life in the trenches of glamor at Vanity Fair and Andy Warhol’s Interview magazine — interviewing Madonna, Courtney Love, Daniel Radcliffe, Hugh Jackman, Diane Sawyer — but also how far he fell before reinventing himself and helping launch FourTwoNine magazine.

Advance reaction appears to make “I Left It on the Mountain” this season’s must-read. “Irresistible — in turn scandalous, hysterical, poignant, and finally, triumphant.“— David Sheff. “Terrifying, dishy, beautiful, valuable.” — Richard Kramer. “Both strong and delicate, of the world and of the spirit in equal measure.” — Howard Jacobson. “In a world of tinsel, [Sessums] reveals himself to be that rare thing, a journalist with a heart.“— Joyce Maynard. “As intimate as a story told over a winter’s night in a quiet beach town, after everyone has gone home” — Jon Robin Baitz.

Kevin Sessums is Editor-in-Chief of FourTwoNine magazine and author of the New York Times bestseller “Mississippi Sissy.” He was a contributing editor at Vanity Fair and Allure. His work has appeared in Elle, Travel+Leisure, Playboy, Out and Show People. He lives in San Francisco.

Bradley Jacobs is a writer, producer, media consultant and on-air host. He spent nine years covering entertainment, politics, trends and kids at the Newsweek web site; then a decade directing movie features and producing news stories at Us Weekly. He regularly moderates Q&As with filmmakers, actors, authors and other newsmakers, and pops up on TV, talking about showbiz and personalities. Dad to Lucas, 3, with his partner Jack Bamberger, Bradley has served in recent months as a part-time media manager at the Family Equality Council, an advocacy group prepping for the SCOTUS to settle the debate over same-sex marriage once and for all.

The Publishing Triangle, the association of gay men and lesbians in the publishing industry, sponsors the Publishing Triangle Awards. honoring the best in LGBT fiction, nonfiction and poetry (New School Auditorium, 66 West 12th Street, on Thursday, April 23).

Afterwards, enjoy the option of a drop-in at The Tippler, a Meatpacking District favorite.

Opening September 20, the High Line’s northernmost, $75-million Rail Yards section will anchor the burgeoning Hudson Yards development. Our guide this evening is OP Member Andre Becker, an official docent of Friends of the High Line. As you will learn, the freight line that underlies the park was built in the 1920s and abandoned in the 1980s.

Highlights of Andre’s tour include:

. How 11th Avenue earned the name “Death Avenue.”
. The legend of the West Side Cowboy and his historic role.
. The unique relationship between the gay community and the now formidably chic Meatpacking District.
. The long fight by Joshua David and John Hammond, both gay, to transform the derelict High Line into a visionary park.

NEW! OUR 2-4-1 WALKING MIXER, ‘GUARDIAN OF THE HARBOR’

OUT PROFESSIONALS’ LATEST SATURDAY ADVENTURE WHISKS YOU TO THE IDYLLIC URBAN OASIS OF GOVERNORS ISLAND.

On Saturday, August 16, begin your trip through time with a brief and breezy ferry ride from the tip of Manhattan to Governors Island, long off limits to New Yorkers.

Soon you’re nestled under a canopy of century-old trees, wandering among stately old brick buildings and enjoying camera-ready views of the Lower Manhattan skyline less than 1000 yards away.

In Dutch and British colonial times, Governors Island was pasture, timberland, game preserve and summer resort. For nearly two centuries after the American Revolution it served as guardian of the harbor and was in continuous military use.

Today it’s a National Monument and city-administered public park, where well-tended lawns play host to Revolutionary War re-enactments and contemporary art installations.

On Saturday, August 16, Out Professionals makes Governors Island the centerpiece of a two-for-one walking tour and mixer. Bring a guest, free! Afterwards, network, socialize or just unwind back at Fraunces Tavern, where Washington bid farewell to his officers.

Out Professionals’ private Walking Tour/Mixer series is designed for us — and you — by Joyce Gold History Tours of New York. Joyce teaches New York history at New York University and the New School.

Highlights of her Governors Island tour include:
. Castle Williams, a circular fort built in the years leading up to the War of 1812 to help protect New York City from naval attack.
. Glimpses of Gatsby-era flappers and sporting gents headed for the Island’s ninth annual Jazz Age Lawn Party.
. Spectacular views of the Lower Manhattan skyline and New York’s harbor.

WHERE
We meet between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m. (not a minute later!) at the light-green Battery Maritime Building at 10 South Street. Look for the Governors Island slip, adjacent to the Staten Island Ferry terminal. Subway: 1 to South Ferry; 4/5 to Bowling Green. Directions from where you are: hopstop.com
