On a Saturday in October, you were invited to join Members and friends of Out Professionals aboard a Hampton Jitney for a full-day exploration of Storm King Art Center, Hudson Valley’s famed museum and sculpture park.
Storm King occupies a dramatic, 500-acre landscape of farm fields, formal allées, natural woodlands, lawns, native grasses, wetlands, ponds and streams. See it all now, bathed in autumn colors. You may glimpse deer, groundhogs, red fox, coyote, wild turkey, red-tail hawks, Canada geese, and turtles in the ponds.
Half an hour after arrival, you enjoy a private guided tour. Bikes are available for rental. Traversing the park are a pair of hop-on/hop-off trams for visitors with limited mobility, who may be given priority.
You are welcome to picnic in one of the park’s designated areas. Or choose from locally sourced offerings at the hilltop Storm King Cafe. We depart for Midtown at 4:30 p.m.
Today’s artistic highlights:
- “Lynda Benglis: Water Sources,” sculptures sited outdoors and in Storm King’s museum building
- “Outlooks: Luke Stettner,” new indoor work complements a large-scale, site-specific outdoor installation.
- “Waiting for UFO,” by Nam June Paik, a Korean-American artist many consider the founder of video art.
- The permanent Storm King collection, anchored by 14 works by David Smith, with masterworks by Alexander Calder, Maya Lin, Henry Moore, Louise Nevelson, Isamu Noguchi and Richard Serra.
Shown: Mother Peace by Mark diSuvero 1969-70
