FROM THE LAND OF THE GODS:  ART OF THE KATHMANDU VALLEY — Some of the finest examples of art from the Kathmandu Valley in Nepal. Located between India and Tibet, the Valley has been the crossroads of trans-Himalayan trade, the shared sacred site of several important Himalayan religions, and an epicenter of Himalayan arts production and influence for over one thousand years. This show will exhibit the finest examples of Nepalese art from the Rubin Museum of Art’s collection, exploring and celebrating the variety that has emerged over time from the creative matrix that is the Kathmandu Valley.

Mandala:  The Perfect Circle — The Mandala is a mysterious and sacred realm. Its most recurrent graphic form is circular in shape. While the word itself means both center and circumference, it is created by Buddhists as a model for contemplative visualization practice, thus becoming an aid to meditation which in turn enables the practitioner to attain a state of enlightenment. This exhibition explores the various manifestations of the mandala.
