OUT PROFESSIONALS PRESENTS A WORKSHOP DESIGNED TO HELP NEW YORKERS MANAGE THE BIG-APPLE BRAND OF ANXIETY.

Is anxiety “New Yorkers’ best frenemy,” as Time Out New York would have it? On Tuesday, April 12, Out Professionals invites psychotherapist David Perkins to share tools to manage and minimize anxiety that is only heightened by living in the Big Apple.

As New Yorkers, we constantly deal with situations that trigger anxieties. Learn how your automatic thoughts and limited patterns of thinking may be making those anxieties worse and last longer.

By using the techniques of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (derived from the work of Dr. Aaron Beck) you can learn to manage these feelings so that they don’t take over.

Psycho-educational in nature and not psychotherapy, this workshop covers:

  • What automatic thoughts are
  • The relationship between your automatic thoughts and your feelings and behavior
  • The most common patterns of limited thinking that create more anxiety
  • How to create balancing and alternative thoughts that lessen anxiety
  • How problem solving is related to anxiety
  • Tools you can use to manage your anxiety more effectively

David Perkins is a Licensed Cognitive Behavioral psychotherapist in private practice in New York City. He is a member of the Academy of Cognitive Therapy, New York State Society for Clinical Social Work and New York City Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy Association. Mr. Perkins specializes in working with anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, OCD, phobias and traumas as well as helping people explore concerns related to sexuality, relationships and seeking support for life transitions. David is particularly experienced in working with the LGBTQ community, the legal profession and performing arts professionals.
